18-YEAR-OLD ANGEL FRANCISCO VALENZUELA ACCUSED OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER; PREVIOUSLY ARRESTED IN SEPARATE SIERRA VISTA SHOOTING CASE SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — An 18-year-old Sierra Vista man previously arrested in connection with a May shooting near Country Club Park has now been arrested and accused of first-degree murder in a separate Tucson homicide investigation. According to the Tucson Police Department, homicide detectives identified Angel Francisco Valenzuela, 18, as the suspect in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Eddie Lopez Jr. The shooting occurred Monday, August 17, shortly after 10:30 p.m. at a home in the 2000 block of South Sahuara Avenue in Tucson. Responding officers found Lopez deceased at the scene with gunshot trauma. As the investigation progressed, TPD says homicide detectives further examined forensic evidence and identified Valenzuela as the suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for murder on August 19. Investigators determined Valenzuela lived in Sierra Vista, prompting Tucson Police personnel to travel to the area. TPD SWAT responded to Valenzuela’s Sierra Vista residence and executed a search warrant. During the search, officers detained Valenzuela and, according to TPD, recovered additional evidence related to the case. Valenzuela was transported to Sierra Vista Police Department headquarters, where Tucson Police detectives interviewed him. He was subsequently transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex and booked on charges of: • First-Degree Murder • Armed Robbery • Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits He is currently being held on a $1 million bond, according to TPD. PREVIOUS SIERRA VISTA SHOOTING CASE- Valenzuela was previously arrested in connection with a separate May 24 shooting near Country Club Park in Sierra Vista, a case previously reported by CoolFMLive. According to SVPD, that incident involved two 18-year-olds who met for a firearm sale before an encounter that resulted in gunfire. Valenzuela was ultimately booked on charges including aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons, unlawful discharge of a firearm and endangerment. The May Sierra Vista shooting and the Tucson homicide are separate criminal cases.
