Am I like a class A hater if I don't find Chanty Beluga funny? It feels like the most dry BuzzFeed millennial cringe, BuzzFeed millennial cringe humor that has hit Gen Z. So that would be because it is a millennial meme, and it seems to be mostly millennials, at least that I've seen so far leaning into it. And for some reason it's getting pinned on Gen Z, I guess, because it originated on TikTok. And I agree, like it was planted by corporate America, because I know they're just about to show up and run this into the ground in their marketing campaigns. But look, here today I want to talk about the Chanty Beluga woman meme, that's just sweeping the internet. If you're struggling to understand it because you're neurodivergent, like I am, I wanna explain why you might think that's supposed to be part of the joke. I think that's supposed to be part of the joke. The joke is kind of of that popular kid humor where like, you just had to be there for it to be funny. But then once someone finally explains it to you, you're like, oh, I get it. I get it. I'm kind of disappointed because I like, I guess. And okay, this is just our day off, unnecessary think piece. That's fine if you love the joke. Love the joke? I'm not here to judge. But yes, Chanty Beluga is apparently came out of an improv group or bunch of like, a fake insane name, and that's like, they put it online and the joke is just that this girl is like, got a crazy name. Like, she'll go to coffee shops and she'll make the barista call out the name, Chanty Beluga. Who's that? And I'm Chanty Beluga. A, the entire joke. And now it's running in some fun directions where people are making up lore into it. And I think that the more that it goes on, it will get. I think there is potential here. But yes, the way it started was just like a friend group's inside joke, which I love that. And so they posted it, I'm sure accidentally. It just went viral, people loved it. That's great. But now it's kind of turned into its own thing. To be clear, some of the creators I love, they're really getting fun with it, but it's also not that there are a lot of people out there doing, like the popular kid humor sort of thing where they're like, well, you were either there or you weren't. And like, obviously I was there and I get it. But if you don't get it, then you just don't get it. And then once you finally get it, you're like, okay. There wasn't a ton here to get and you kind of made this high expectations for. All right, let's. Let's chill. Let's. Let's stay playful together, everybody.
