In 2010, 19-year-old Australian rugby player Sam Ballard accepted a dare that would change his life forever. He swallowed a garden slug, unknowingly exposing himself to a parasite that can cause rat lungworm disease. Soon, Sam became seriously ill and developed inflammation affecting his brain and nervous system. He eventually fell into a coma that lasted around 420 days. When he woke up, he had severe, permanent disabilities and required full-time care. His mother became his primary caregiver as the family faced years of emotional and financial hardship. Sam died in 2018, at just 28 years old, from complications related to his illness. His story became a powerful reminder that a momentary dare can have consequences that last a lifetime. #tiktokgrowthchallenge #SamBallard #TrueStory #MedicalHistory #Australia
