I have fine curly hair and looking see-through and stringy has been the bane of my existence for years, trust me i've tried so much to get where i am and i'm always trying to problem solve so comment with any other curl issues you're dealing with! this method works so well because you're creating a bit of controlled frizz and volume at the bottom to make the ends look full, while the top section is getting the definition that pulls the whole washday together. it also saves so much time because you're only brush styling/finger coiling one small section instead of your whole head. let me know if this helps and send it to a friend with fine curly hair!
