I wish somebody told me this before I planted grass seed in my yard. Because right now in the fall is the best time to plant grass seed. But there's two important things that you need before doing so. Well actually three. So let's cover them all. The first thing to think about is giving yourself for your seed to actually germinate and mature before risk of your first frost in your area. So you need to know your area's average first frost and then we reverse engineer from there. The next is what seed you're gonna be planting in your yard. Cause let's be honest, not all seed is the same. There is good seed and there is bad. And trust me, the results will differ a lot between the good and the bad. And the last one is after you've knowing exactly how much time to budget for that seed to germinate and mature based upon what I told you in number one, which was your average first frost. After your seed germinates, we need to allow that plant to properly mature before the average first frost. Then before that, we need to allow for your seed to physically germinate in optimal growing conditions. Annual ryegrass is four to seven days. Fescues anywhere between seven and 10 days. But Kentucky bluegrass is the kicker. That is anywhere between seven all the way up to, if not longer, if not longer weeks to germinate. If you're up north, Labor Day is usually that date in the target to look. But as we inch closer to that dreaded winter, this becomes forever more important.
