5 more simple sustainability things I did recently that also saved me money! finally found a use for the extra large kombucha bottles that I upcycled months ago. I fill these with my water filter and then store them in the fridge so that I can have ice cold filtered water all the time. These bottles are so convenient, but also something about them feels so luxurious, which is ironic because they were headed for the recycling bin. I picked up a new read from a nearby free little library. I love the system, I think it's so sweet and such a great way to exchange secondhand materials. And of course, it's free. I can again refill my glass hand soap bottles. I've been using the green one for over a year now and it was actually a store bought hand soap bottle my mom gave me. That's why there's writing on the other side, so yet again, something that was destined for the recycling bin, but also feels luxurious. Hand soap refills are generally much cheaper than buying the individual bottle and I've also reduced a lot of plastic waste in doing this. Instead of buying a new rug for my living room, I graciously took this hand woven wool rug off my grandma's hands. This was passed down from my great grandma. It's so beautiful and full of charm. It is inherently sustainable because it actually has lots of old fabrics woven into it. If you look closely, you can see what appears to be old flannel shirts. I just got back from a trip and part of my post travel routine is to refill all of my mini toiletries. The mini versions of products are always a worse value and I don't want to continuously repurchase them when I already have the full size on hand. Not to mention, it's just a waste of plastic. So my goal is to find a way to refill every part of my routine so I can just keep these little bottles and reuse them forever. Most of them are pretty easy to refill.
