You know, how us Virgos tend to get a little gloomy and emo around our birthday? Well, one, I'm telling you, you're not alone. Two, I can explain. In Greek mythology, the sign Virgo is represented by Persephone. Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She embodies so much light. She's often seen in a very light-filled space with a lot of flowers. She embodies the Virgin, the maiden. Um, and one sweet day she was out just minding her own business. And what do you know? From the underworld comes the king of the underworld, Hades. And he's like, girl, I seen you from all the way down there and I want you. And unfortunately, her dad had obliged to that and like condoned it. And so off Hades goes. He sweeps Persephone. Before she knows it, she's now the queen of the underworld. And she's not really fucking with the title. And so then up onto the mortal land, her mother Demeter, hell and high water, she is wrecking shit in the name of her daughter. She's creating famines. Things are burning, droughts are happening. Like she said, no crop will grow until my daughter is back into my hands. And at first Zeus wasn't really hearing nothing. And so people were dying. People are dying, him. And so eventually Zeus was like, I mean, that's a lot of bodies that you just caught. I, I think I'm gonna call my guy Hermes and see if he can like maybe do one for me and go to the underworld. So Zeus calls up Hermes. He's like, could you go get Persephone back? Because Demeter is tripping. She's really wrecking shit up here. And so then Hermes is like, I'ma try. And so then off he goes. He makes contact, he sees, he gets eyes. And he's like, you're coming with me, Persephone. And she's like, thank god. I've been waiting. I've been waiting. And Hades is like being kind of cool. Like he's like, yeah, take her. I ain't even really, I wasn't even vibing like that anyways. And so then Hades sends her off, or doesn't send her off yet, because he's acting cool. He's acting cool. Like, this is no sweat to me. But before you go, before you go, babe, have some pomegranate seeds. And she really wasn't thinking about it. He was like, you know what, the trip is gonna be long back up to the mortal world. Like, you need to make sure that you're well fed. And she was like, I mean, I do like a pomegranate seed. And so unfortunately, our beloved good sis Persephone does consume the pomegranate seeds. I believe about six of them, which pomegranate is the food of the dead. And he said, gotcha, bitch. You just consumed food of the dead in the underworld. You're bound. You're bound. Games over, it's a wrap. It's a wrap. And she and Hermes are like looking at each other, they're looking at, what do you mean? And he said, you're stuck here. I'm so sorry. And so anyways, eventually they come up with a compromise. The compromise is that you can go up there, be with your mama, and serve your people in the mortal world. But you are gonna come back down here for a portion of the year and you are gonna be queen of the underworld. And you can be up there, you can create seasons. That's how we get seasons. Thank you, Persephone. Shout out to us Virgos. And so anyways, you can go, you can create a, you can create seasons. You can do what you wanna do, but you're gonna bring your, the underworld will see you. And so, unfortunately, Persephone spends half of the year in the underworld. And I don't know about you guys, but as a Virgo, once I heard that story, oh, it made so much sense. I swear every single year around my birthday, there is just so much to be grateful for, but there's also the knowing that a part of me is going to die off. And with that is also now at my big age as they call it, the confidence and knowing that it is going to be something better that I return back as. But that's story.
