While Greeks protest Israel's genocide... their government is buying billions in Israeli military tech. KAREEM YASIN Greece just signed a $3.5 billion deal to buy air defense tech from Israel, ISRAEL'S BIGGEST DEFENSE EXPORT DEAL EVER. "Achilles Shield" will see Israel supply Greece with anti-drone and ballistic missile tech like SPYDER and David's Sling. Greece and Israel have been negotiating for 3 years - while Israel was simultaneously committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. And it's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to growing ties between the Greek and Israeli governments - which cover everything from natural resources to real estate. Israeli officials have even floated buying up to 40 Greek islands to create a "safe haven" for Israelis who leave during conflict you know, like when Israel massacres Palestinians in Gaza or bombs places like Lebanon or Iran. Some Greek experts warn that Greece is slowly becoming a "satellite" for Israel. And for many in Greece, where there are regular protests - and widespread graffiti - against Israel's genocide, THOSE DEALS ARE A BETRAYAL OF THEIR VALUES. Greeks have protested cruise ships carrying Israeli tourists from docking on their ports, and unions refused to let their docks be used for transport of any goods that aid Israel's genocide in Gaza. Private investors and hotel conglomerates are buying up properties across major cities like Athens as well as the islands, building luxury resorts across the coasts. Experts say that's contributing to a major housing crisis, making rents unaffordable, especially in Athens. But while Greeks grow increasingly critical of Israel, the Greek government has other ideas. It plans to spend over $32 billion to expand the "Achilles Shield" program OVER THE NEXT DECADE ALONE.
