I got a coding job offer today! Behind me is proof that another SMC Academy student got a full-time medical coding job. I just wanted to send a quick update and say that I received an offer today for a full-time coding position here locally in [redacted]. I took your advice, and I have been applying for the past two months to a variety of remote, on-site, and coding-adjacent roles to try to get my foot in the door. This role is perfect for me at this point because it starts in-office at a local university hospital system and is designed for brand-new coders with no experience. It provides a nice, long on-ramp for training and then allows me to work from home when I meet my metrics. I'm so excited and thankful! I truly believe it's because in my program, we don't focus on the things you already know. Like learning is your responsibility anything past high school. Higher education requires that you read the material, you try to apply it. The instructor comes into play whenever you are applying something or you don't fully understand. And so what I mean by we're not focusing on the things you already know, we're focusing on the things you don't. So students are able to get through this very quickly.
