The denazification of graves in Germany. People often ask me and wonder how are the graves in their war dead remembered in Germany. Mostly by the same format. These smaller headstones can be found in the graves of the first, Second World War, and also the civilian dead killed in the allied bombing. Occasionally you do find those that bear the Iron Cross, or sometimes they have the plain metal crosses which contain up to 8 people per plot. It isn't uncommon to find the steel helmet, those famous coal scuttle helmets of the First World War. However, some graves changed in the post-war period. Here we have men from Lufafa, 1939 and 1940. These are privately made headstones. They're emblazoned with a Luffa for eagle. However, beneath them, once upon a time had a symbol which is now banned in Germany.
