My life, my children, my life in the second with a phone call. Venus Griffin. I have recently finished my memoir, the other side of perfect. The other side of perfect is a story of overcoming almost unbeatable odds. My husband being sentenced to 45 years in prison, leaving me as a single mom of six children. I got a phone call, a prostitute. She had been blackmailing, drained all of our accounts. I was devastated. When my husband went to prison, three things saved my family. My first, every, so, endorphins. Despite the craziness. The second thing was having six, matter, the third thing was my faith and taking my children to church every day. Just those things. (2/13) "My first memory is watching my mother beside the couch, and watch her fingernails be in bed when I left for school. In bed when I left for breakfast. Nobody to brush my hair. I remember because other kids were making fun of me. My brother ended up in maximum security from everyone. I never invited anyone over. I didn't want anyone seeing the pill bottles. She was always angry about something. One time that somebody stole Christmas. That one time she said: 'Your mom is in jail, and she just tried to do all by myself. On Sunday I'd go to church and act like a lady. I didn't drink, or cuss. I remember that deal for me. I'd changed high schools six times. A girl $50 to use her dress. I spent the whole day finishing my make-up, and the door swung open, pretty as me.' She put her fingers in my hair. I could have let her win. I could have spent seconds fixing my hair, and I walked out of there. I wasn't going to let her ruin my life. I did. After my story went viral with Humans of New York. It really validated me. I had women all over the world messaging me saying that they were committing, they were committing suicide. They were in abusive situations.
