Xiaomi 18 Fold: Wide Foldable Standard Emerges with Apple Event Just Days Away Xiaomi is launching the 18 Fold on September 7. Apple's event is September 9. Two days apart, and that's obviously not an accident 👇 📱 THE PHONE Same wide "passport" shape as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. A 5.38-inch cover screen opening to 7.58 inches inside. Xiaomi calls it a "mid-fold," sitting between the big book-style foldables and the small flip ones. Folded, it's roughly passport-sized. ⚡ THE CHIP Xiaomi's own XRing O3, a 3nm processor, and the first flagship they've built around their own silicon. It's also the first phone shipping CXMT's new LPDDR6 memory. 📸 THE CAMERA A Leica triple camera setup, which is two more lenses than most wide foldables bother with. Reportedly a 6,000mAh battery too, which is a lot for something this compact. 🔴 It's also extremely red. Everyone who saw it at IFA in Berlin said the photos don't do it justice. 🤔 THE INTERESTING PART Samsung went wide in July. Xiaomi goes wide on the 7th. Apple on the 9th. Everyone landed on the same shape in the same year. Except the shape isn't new. OPPO did short-and-wide back in 2021 with the Find N. Google did it in 2023 with the original Pixel Fold, then gave up and went back to tall. It sat there for five years, and it took Samsung doing it for everyone else to decide it was a good idea. ⚠️ ONE CATCH Xiaomi has never sold a foldable outside China, going back to the Mix Fold in 2021. So this one is a China-only release. Three companies, same shape, one week. Feels like the wide foldable just became the standard and nobody announced it. What do you think?
