Using 1B to tone my level 6?!

Lemme break this down more here………. Blue is one of the coolest/darkest depositing shades in hair coloring. Using blue is the one of the best way to impart “steel” tones into the hair and in @Redken Pro has either 9B or 1B. 1B has the most amount of tone in it and she’s STRONG so we’re going to grab her. When you over dilute 1B you remove most of the level and are left with the strong blue tone that you can use as a overlay to really ash out your client. I do NOT recommend using this as your stan The other day I had a tone client. We did her highlights earlier this year and toned them to a nice like blonde kind of shade. But she just came in the other day and she wanted it to be a lot darker and she wanted to be more mushroomy, a little bit more steel. She didn't want to remove them, but she wanted them to just be really nice and smoky. It lives in the black to gray background family so it just has that instant cool deposit to it. And you probably don't do a lot of blacks. So let's talk about how we can make 1B a little bit more user friendly so it doesn't sit in your color cabinet for probably three years. So for the first tone that I mixed up, I did 6N A and a little bit of 7M because she said she wanted it to be a little bit more mushroomy. So M gives someone that like mushroomy. Applied that on dry hair and let that sit for 20 minutes then rinse. And I was looking at the color bowl, it still looked like it had a little bit more warmth in it than what I was looking for. I didn't want to necessarily add a lot of level to her formula if that makes sense because I already brought her from like a level nine back down to like a level six. So I didn't want to add too much level to our formula. So I grabbed trusty old 1B. And I took 1B and I did about 0.75 grams of 1B and then I think I did about like 6 grams of crystal clear. So and I did that, I removed a good amount of that level one. I didn't make it a two or three or anything like that. I removed a good amount of that blue pigment in there and gave it that really nice steel tone that we were looking for. So next time you need somebody out, don't add a lot of level to your formula, grab your 1B, dilute the crap out of it and trust me, you will love the results from this. You can even do this on blonds if you want a blond that's going to be super ashy and super smoky. You can take 1B but you have to mix in a bunch of clear so that it doesn't go blue and smoky so quick.
