Yesterday I was told that Oz has a congenital skull abnormality, including a very large open fontanelle, and that what we’re seeing may be congenital hydrocephalus. I was told her condition may not be compatible with a long life and that choosing to let her go would not be wrong. I heard that. I understand it. And I also know Oz has spent the last four weeks proving that predictions about her don’t always go according to plan. After a lot of conversations with God and my family, I’ve decided we’re getting a second opinion from a veterinary neurologist. There are very real financial implications. A specialist consultation is only the beginning. She may need advanced imaging, diagnostics and treatment, and we could very quickly be talking about thousands of dollars. The original GoFundMe goal was met, and those donations are a huge part of what got Oz this far. They helped us get her veterinary care, answers, and ultimately to this point where a specialist is even an option. I’ve now updated the GoFundMe goal to help cover the next step: a veterinary neurologist, advanced diagnostics and imaging, and whatever initial treatment may be appropriate based on what we find. Before making an irreversible decision for this tiny girl, I need to understand exactly what we’re dealing with and what her realistic chances are. I won’t ask Oz to stay for me, and I won’t keep her here at any cost. When she tells me she’s tired, I will love her enough to listen. She just hasn’t told me that yet. Right now, she is still here. She is still fighting. So we keep going. The updated GoFundMe is linked in my bio for anyone who wants to help us get those answers. #ozthekitten #accidentalcatsanctuary #rescuekitten #specialneedskitten #catrescue
