Story Time

So when I was the manager of a makeup store, I had a man come in and he asked me to help teach him how to do a whole face of makeup. Let me tell you what happened. So this gentleman comes in and he is eagerly looking for help. I approach him and his face lights up and I'm like, do you need help finding anything? And he was like, yeah, I actually have a little bit of a strange request. He goes, I have never, ever done makeup before a day in my life, but I need somebody to teach me how to do like a full face of makeup. To tell you the truth, he seemed kind of chipper about it, which was strange because sometimes when men come into the store, they're like, they don't want to be there. Like it's against their will. So I asked him, um, is this for like a special event? A special occasion? Like what type of full face are we talking about? This full start cackling and he's like, no, no, no, no, no. It's not for me. I'm not doing makeup on myself. I need to learn how to do makeup on another person. So, a homeboy wanted to be a mua and wanted me to teach him everything. So I asked him, are you taking clients? Like, do you already have clients lined up? And he was like, oh, man, let me just tell you everything. So, he starts um, letting me know that his wife was in a car accident and that he was so happy that she's alive, but that she can't really use her hands much anymore. She can't hold things anymore. She can't really hold her makeup, do her makeup, like she used to. So he goes, I always think she's beautiful, but I want her to feel beautiful and the only thing I can think of is I need to learn how to do makeup. So immediately we come up with a game plan, right? We got some stuff pulled and I'm explaining to him and I'm trying to show him how to blend on his hand. It's not working. And I was just like, hold on a second. I grabbed a makeup wipe and I take off all my makeup. My makeup wasn't even like that fantastic that day, but like, I was trying to like, how can I teach him to do makeup? He just gotta do it on somebody. So I'm like, I'm doing half of my face and I'm letting him practice on the other half. And there were a couple of times where like, I had to wipe off my bronzer and we tried again. And, um, I sat there with him for a little bit while we played with makeup together. My makeup looked cute. Okay. Um, homeboy did a great job. My makeup was looking good. He buys everything. I was teaching him how to use. He thanks me, he checks out and he leaves. A month goes by. He comes in and he's like, oh my god, I've been coming in every few days, hoping to see you and you're here. And he shows me pictures of his wife and she is smiling and she is happy and she looks beautiful. And he thinks me because I taught him how to do makeup. Working at a makeup store, you don't have the expectation of like, this type of interaction happening, but it was just like, the most beautiful display of true love that like, I can remember experiencing working there.
