Welcome back to my series Dumbing Down Doodles where I make doodling impossible to mess up. Grab a bunch of colored pens, lay them out in the order you like. Take the first pen and draw this rainbow pattern. Keep repeating this pattern to fill up the corner of your page. I'm going back and forth four times for each little rainbow. When the corner is filled, take your second pen and keep drawing the same pattern over and over again. Essentially, this entire page will be getting filled with many little rainbows. I'm starting each rainbow tucked right in between the others. Lots of my rainbows are wonky and that's fine. Keep going layering each pen color in a diagonal row across my sketchbook. I'm drawing each color in a diagonal row across my sketchbook. Here's a closer look at what this looks like in real time, not sped up. My sketchbook is small, 5x5 inches and this took me about an hour in total for this step. It's a lot slower than it looks. Smudge-proof pens are key for the next step coming up, or you could use fine point markers, that would work beautifully too. Finishing off this step with the satisfying time lapse. You can stop here, this is looking great, or we can level up by adding a shadow effect to give this a 3D illusion. I'm tracing along the green rainbow pattern with a pencil, going all along that layer of rainbows. Then taking my smudger thing and blending out that hard line. I'm making sure that the pencil does not get blended onto the green. So I'm blending just the edges of it onto the tan color. To sharpen the shadow line, I'm going over the edge of the green one more time with my pencil. This will give the effect that the green is on top of the brown. Watch what a difference that makes. Before and after. Here's the result. I hope you give this one a try. I love seeing what you guys recreate. Happy doodling.
