Dumbing Down Doodles

Welcome back to my series Dumbing Down Doodles where I'm doodling impossible to mess up. Grab a marker, any marker and draw circles in your sketchbook. Actually, not circles, more like rounded oval shapes. Let it be messy, overlap the circles and don't overthink this step. It shouldn't be looking good yet. I'm using a shiny purple acrylic marker, but that's irrelevant. Use any marker you want. Any color, any type. Once the page is filled with your messy circular shapes, use the same marker to round out the corners. This is your chance to retrace your lines, perfect them and let yourself enjoy the process. It's even okay if you overthink now. When you're finished, your page should be looking something like this. Grab a black pen and outline each section. This step is so therapeutic and enjoyable. Tracing the lines over and over. Keep outlining the sections until your page is full. I'm keeping with the leaf pattern you've all been loving. So we're going to draw lines in each section, but this time keeping them straight instead of curved. First draw a line in the section dividing it in half, then draw lines from that line on both sides. These tiny little lines are so easy to get lost in. Once your page is filled with about a million lines, you can stop here and be done. Or you can move along and add some dimension with a shadow effect. Take a pencil and draw right over that center line in each section. No, it doesn't matter what pencil you use. This one is from my son's school bag. And no, the step doesn't need to be neat. I'm not being neat here. I'm using a thin smudger thing, but you can use a thick one too since we're not being precise with the blending. A lot of you suggest that a Q-tip works well if you don't have one of these. So no excuse not to do this. Keep blending out the pencil until all the shadows are blended out. And here's the result. This is easily the most relaxing doodle ever. And you can do this one with items you have at home. Any marker, any pencil, any pen and a Q-tip. Post your doodles in the comments.
