One of my professors told me that if I want to become a director, I don't have to learn filmmaking. This was the first day of class. So in 2018, I enrolled in film school that was two years. And the first day of class, I sat down, the professor asked a simple question. He asked, who here wants to become a director? And a bunch of people raise their hands. And after that, he asked who wants to be a camera operator, who wants to be a DP, and you see a couple hands going up. But everyone wants to become a director because that's like the main guy in a set. And all the students were in film bachelor's, which is so funny that they have a degree in film. Next thing he said was something that really got me thinking a lot. And all of the students who have dropped out of the class. And he said that if you want to become a director, you have to learn how to write and not how to film. And at that time, that didn't make any sense to me. Logically, the director is the main guy in the set, he should know how to do everything, right? The audio, the lighting, everything. But with time and experience, I graduated film school and I started doing my own thing, I kind of became a director myself. And growing into filmmaking made me understand that the one thing, and everyone says it, and you might know it too, the one thing that you need to learn to be a good filmmaker is storytelling. And storytelling comes with writing. You need to learn how to write, how to script. So you can be a filmmaker and be a director. But being a director is super important. You have to learn how to write.
