10 Ron Washington Infield Principles Every Infielder Should Know” so it feels like a Coach Joel breakdown instead of just random tips. 1. Get your feet working before your glove does. Good infielders don’t just have soft hands—they put their body in position to make the play. 2. Play through the baseball. Don’t sit back and wait unless the hop forces you to. Attack the ball and create your own rhythm. 3. Stay low through the catch. Your chest, hips, and glove should stay under control. Standing up too early creates bad hops and rushed throws. 4. Work from the ground up. Clean footwork leads to clean hands, and clean hands lead to accurate throws. 5. Catch the ball out front. Giving your eyes a better look at the ball helps you read the hop and keeps your hands relaxed. 6. Your glove should work soft, not stiff. Receive the baseball. Don’t stab at it. Let the glove give with the hop. 7. Create momentum toward your target. Fielding the ball is only half the play. Your feet should already be preparing you for the throw. 8. Know when to use one hand and when to use two. Not every ground ball is the same. Routine balls, slow rollers, backhands, and forehands all require different glove actions. 9. Practice bad hops, not just perfect ones. Games aren’t clean. Train short hops, in-between hops, backhands, and uncomfortable angles. 10. Do the fundamentals until they become automatic. This might be the biggest Ron Washington lesson of all: elite defense comes from repetition. The boring work becomes the game-saving play. #RonWashington #InfieldDrills #BaseballTraining #Infielders #CoachJoelBaseball
