Why it worked
The video uses a powerful visual metaphor—a human in a cage—to make an abstract animal welfare issue tangible and immediate, forcing viewers to confront the reality of the conditions.
Summary
A creator highlights the inhumane conditions of farrowing crates by staging a protest where a human sits in a replica crate in a public square. The video contrasts the human's temporary protest with the permanent confinement of pigs in the factory farming system.
Structure
- 1Human protest in a replica farrowing crate
- 2Questions about basic survival in confinement
- 3Comparison to the reality of factory farming
- 4Explanation of the systemic exploitation of pigs
- 5Call to action to sign a petition
Product placement
Animal Rising: (a) ACTS — the organization is the subject of the petition and the creator directs viewers to their YouTube channel for the full story. Removing it would change the video's call to action and purpose. Linktree: (b) APPEARS — the creator's bio link container. Removing it would not change the video content.

How does she go to the toilet?
How does she eat and sleep?
How does she move around or stand up?
You might be wondering how Michelle
living in a farrowing crate for 21 days
does all of this.
but have you ever stopped to wonder how pigs do it too?
Sows spend weeks in these farrowing crates
whilst they're pregnant and when they give birth.
where they're unable to move
let alone turn around
to their newborn babies and show them the affection they desperately want to give them.
Michelle is making people stop and imagine what it would be like to live like this.
the difference is Michelle knows she will be free soon.
these pigs never escape the system.
They eat, sleep, urinate, defecate and give birth all in the same crate.
and why?
so we can use their bodies for production
so we can produce more pigs to exploit.
it's sad that it takes a human in a pig's position for some people to care or to make the connection.
I wouldn't wish this on anyone no matter their species
and that's why I'm vegan.

Luna is the name of the pig featured in this video. @Animal Rising has a petition to free her, and a sanctuary waiting to rescue her. Please sign the petition, the link is in my bio. 🐷🔗 @michelle.inthecrate and Luna represent all of the pigs we exploit. I really recommend giving Luna’s full story a watch on Animal Rising’s YouTube channel (link also in bio). Most people don’t know this is how pigs are kept and treated. But the problem isn’t just the conditions they’re kept in. It’s that we use them at all. No matter how they are treated, pigs are not ours to use, exploit or kill. They deserve to live their lives free from us. We don’t need to make animal exploitation better. We need to end it. Let’s get Luna out, and raise awareness for all the pigs who are trapped in this system and cycle of exploitation.
