Do I think you can make a good living with art? Yes, it’s possible! But I believe the (full-time) artists who are the most successful are the ones who diversify their income so that they are not dependent on any single income stream. This allows a safety net in case any streams take a dip, which is very common in unstable freelance industries. This might mean that some of your income streams don’t involve any actual visual art creation! Things like teaching, markets, content, etc. Which is totally fine, but I just want younger artists to be aware that this might be how a lot of their favorite artists manage their business. Let me be clear; you DONT NEED to do all this; frankly I’m very excessive lol and I have specific income goals I wanna reach. But for artists looking to doing art full time, I’d reccomend having two active streams and one passive for the safety net. And this could look different depending on your art practice and goals!
