Regular use of eyelash extensions is linked to overgrowth of common skin mites called demodex. 👀These parasites can be normal on the skin and eyelashes but when they overgrow they can lead to crusting (shown here), redness and itching of the eyelids and surrounding skin. If you have eyelash extensions, eyelid hygiene is key. Twice a day washing with an eyelid wash (such as hypochlorous acid or dilute tea tree oil) can help prevent this blepharitis and treat early cases. More significant symptoms often require a prescription antiparasitic treatment from your doctor. #eyelashextensions #demodex #dermatologist
