Scientists have identified a previously unknown species of small wild cat in the forests of Bolivia, after DNA analysis revealed it was distinct from other tiger cats. The newly described Tilcaya cat, or Leopardus tilcayo, had gone unnoticed because it closely resembles other spotted and striped wild cats in the region. Researchers say the discovery highlights how much biodiversity remains undocumented, particularly in less-studied areas of South America. The finding could also have important conservation implications, as scientists need to understand where the species lives before they can assess the threats it faces. #cat #bolivia #science #viral #news
