Hey, y'all, happy Friday. I am having a really tough week. I have just had a million things going on at work. But also, one of my really good friends from law school, Steven Cozzi, was murdered by a plastic surgeon named a doctor Thomas Kowalski, something like that. And that trial is now happening. That doctor has decided to represent himself. It's going exactly as you would expect, which is exactly what he deserves. And he has also waived a jury. This is a bench trial in front of a judge that I am familiar with from my practice back in Pensacola when I used to work there. Steven Cozzi was literal sunshine. He wore a bow tie every single day to law school classes. I think he did when he practiced as well. And he didn't do it ironically. He was literally that sweet, friendly, approachable, charming, funny, theatrical, had a theatre background. Me and Steven were on, like, five gay students, out gay students in our law school. I should say out, because there were a lot, and still are a lot of closeted folks at that law school. But we were on the Lambda organisation student board together. Which Lambda was the gay kids organisation. But even in law school, you everything has to be abstracted, especially when it comes to being queer. Um, we have to use the, you know, the Greek letter symbol Lambda and have some like convoluted explanation as to how that relates back to being gay. But in any event, he worked with this other person, Jake, is one of my really good friends. We didn't meet till we were public defenders together. And after he left the public defender's office, he went to work at this law firm with Steven. Steven was actually standing in for Jake, uh, my friend, on this hearing that was supposed to happen that morning. That the plastic surgeon murdered him before he was able to appear at in the bathroom of his own office. So, yeah, this man is Harvard educated. He is wealthy. He murdered Steven because Steven was the lawyer representing the plaintiffs that were suing him, the doctor, Doctor Thomas, for malpractice and all other things. So instead of losing the lawsuit or settling, he decided to instead kill the appearing attorney, pick up a death penalty case and represent himself, and make himself a national clown and fool. Before he inevitably gets sentenced to either life or death. I do not believe in the death penalty. We all know this. Am I going to lose sleep if he gets the death penalty? Fuck, no. I'm not. Uh, yeah. This guy would not have qualified to be one of my clients. So don't. He wouldn't. He's a rich fucking white man and he's fucking evil. He's a powerful evil dude, and he is too powerful, meaning financially, to be a public defender client. And that's not the point. The point of this video is to I'm struggling a little bit because Steven was such a good person. Like, of all the people this shouldn't have happened to anyone. But of all the people it could have happened to, all the lawyers, this is the last person who deserved this, genuinely. And I'm sending love to his widow and his mother. And, you know, I hope that he is somewhere singing show tunes. I hope we find him one day. We don't know what he did with. With Steven. We don't know if he was left in the Everglades or if he was left in a landfill. I mean. But in any event, life is crazy, man. Life is crazy. And Florida is even crazier.
