I recently adopted a new cleaning schedule called the Fly Lady Method to help make cleaning as a stay-at-home mom easier and manageable. And so many of you guys wanted the details, so let's talk about it. I have been wanting a good cleaning schedule for a while now. I do not like cleaning on the weekends and I don't like doing like four-hour Sunday resets. I wanted something that I could do little by little every day to make my house more manageable to clean. And this has been working so well for that. Basically, the Fly Lady Method is having daily tasks, zone cleaning, and then a weekly plan. Sounds like a lot, but it's really not. You just have to sit down and map out your home. I think the more detailed you get on your list, the easier, but do what you want. So basically, I have my daily list, things that I'm going to be doing every single day. Make my bed, open my curtains, get dressed for the day. Empty my dishwasher, make breakfast, switch the laundry, open up windows/curtains, check calendar/planner, check zone cleaning, vacuum floors, plan for dinner. School days pack two snacks, water up. Here's my list if you want to look at it. So literally every morning I open this and look at it and get it done. This does not take long. I don't fully do what the Fly Lady Method says. She has a thing called Swish and Swipe where she's wiping down her like bathroom counters every day. I don't do that because I have adapted this to work for me. But if you want her full routine, I believe she has a free website and a free app you can use. Now let's talk about zone cleaning. So zone cleaning is basically how you're going to deep clean your home in a six-week timespan based off the zones you have set for your house. You can go through and basically put your different areas of your home into different zones. So I have six zones in my home. For example, Zone 1 for me is my entryway, my dining room, and my front porch. I went through room by room and wrote down what needs to be done to deep clean that room. For example, my entryway, I have white my mirror, vacuum rug, dust the window sills and the blinds, dust the baseboards, clean my entryway table and dust the light fixture. I went through every area of my home and wrote all that down. So when I am on Zone 1, I'm going to open this page up, look through this and go down the list. What's nice about the Fly Lady Method is it's a timer system. So she does it where you set a 15-minute timer every single day, you clean this for 15 minutes when the timer is up, you stop cleaning. And then the next day, you do another 15-minute timer and you start where you left off. And by the end of the six weeks, you should have that zone fully clean. Now my son's in preschool two days a week, so I have adapted this to do two 30-minute zone cleans a week because for me, it's easier to clean my toddler's out of the house. So Zone 1, Zone 2 is my kitchen, Zone 3 is my master bedroom/bathroom, Zone 4 is my kids' bedrooms and their bathroom, Zone 5 is my living room and my laundry room, and then Zone 6 is random rooms in my house like my mudroom, my playroom, and my front stairs. Breaking it up into six zones, basically all those areas will be clean in a six-week timespan. And then once the six weeks is done, you just go back and start new. But then you also have your weekly plan. So this is basically what you're going to be cleaning or doing each day of the week. Here's my list if you want to see it. So for me, I like to sweep and mop my floors on Mondays and empty my trash cans because our trash man comes on Tuesdays. Tuesdays is when I clean all my bathrooms and I do one of my 30-minute zone cleans. Wednesdays is kind of a free day, usually because I'm out of the house with my kids, but I do have my car on this list just because I like to go through my car once a week, throw out trash, vacuum, whatever I need to do. So I want to kind of prep my kitchen and my fridge for the grocery shop. Thursdays, I have like kitchen clean on there, so I do like a general wipe down of my kitchen and then one other 30-minute zone clean, and I plan my grocery list and clean out my fridge if I need to. Just because I grocery shop on Sundays, so I want to prep my kitchen and my fridge for the grocery shop. And then Fridays is when I change all my sheets and vacuum my bedrooms/playroom, wipe down nightstands. But this basically helps me keep my home generally clean Monday through Friday. So on the weekends I can relax. I obviously still do like my kitchen counters and laundry on the weekends, but I'm not cleaning toilets, I'm not scrubbing counters, I'm not doing any sort of cleaning. I can put screenshots of all my lists and my zones in the comments if you guys want them, but again, they're going to be different because everyone's home is different than what I'm cleaning. But I can definitely post that if you guys want it. I hope this helps because this really has changed the game for me. It has made things so much easier. I love having daily tasks, things I can visually look at. No, I have to clean. I love it. Bye.
