I'm making 100 handmade gifts before Christmas. So welcome to episode 3 of Handmade for the Holidays. Today we're making gifts for my brother-in-laws. So this is your warning to scroll. Today we're making gifts number 10 through 15. And as always, at the end, we'll be rating them based on cost, time to make, difficulty, and overall giftability. So let's get into it. We're making golf club covers. Sewing is very much in my wheelhouse. I don't know a lot about golf, but I am really good at finding lost golf balls. So I'm qualified enough for making sets of three using separate golf driver and fairway covers, and then a separate pattern for the putters. Equipment wise, all you really need for this project is a regular sewing machine. Once you have everything cut out, the first step is fusing your fabric to the flex foam. And then I quilt everything together using a 1-inch by 1-inch diamond pattern. And then you'll cut out your final pattern pieces. So I'll have something that looks a little bit like this. All six of my prepped and ready to go. I'm going to set these aside for now and then move on to doing the piping. You can absolutely buy pre-made piping, but I make my own. I just fold the fabric around the piping cord and then use a zipper foot to sew it nice and close to the edge. Make sure that you cut your fabric on the bias if you're going to do this. You truly pay attention for the bias, otherwise you'll get a lot of puckering on your piping. Set the piping for now and then add a zipper to the front piece. You'll lay the zipper side right side touching the front piece and sew down the edge. Repeat that on the other side, so the zipper is fully attached. And then cutting this front piece to be the same size as the pattern piece. Now we're taking our top piece and attach piping all the way around the outside edge. And set that piece aside and line up your two side pieces and sew down the short edge. Then we'll take our side piece and line it up all the way around the top piece, place, pin it in place and sew these pieces together. Next, we'll attach piping to our front piece. And that's to finish up that bottom edge. Then we'll trim it to all the same length and put a little piece of bias tape over the raw edges. Then you flip it right side out and you're done. The putter cover is made pretty similarly. The pattern walks you through it. And now I just need your best handmade gift ideas for guys because not all my brother-in-laws are into golf. I think this is a really unique sewing project. An opportunity to test your skills like sewing zippers, making piping. For the official rating, each golf club cover costs me $7.16. So if you're doing a set of three, it'd be about $21. Time, it took me about 11 to 12 hours to make all six. So that's about 2 hours per cover. Difficulty to make, I think this is approachable for a confident beginner, but a little bit tedious. So I'm going to put this at a 3 out of 5. Gift-ability, I think it's a great gift. However, you have to be a golfer. So I'm going to give this a 4 out of 5. And I'll see you in episode 4.
