American apple pie might just have to take a back seat to this Polish version. And it would be the perfect addition to any holiday dinner. And because I know you'll want to make this, I'll put the entire recipe at the end. But please check out the original creator, Giving Yum. She'll be tagged in the video description box below. Unlike American apple pie, this Polish version starts with a shortbread crust. After this shortbread crust is pressed into a 9x13 pan and parbaked, it is topped with a mixture of shredded apples, cinnamon, and sugar. But Polish apple pie doesn't stop there. After evenly spreading your apple mixture on top of your shortbread crust, top with a meringue topping. And then carefully spread this across your shredded apples. And just when you think it can't get better, it does. Top your meringue layer with a crumble topping before placing it in the oven. I don't know about you, but this Polish apple pie has definitely earned a spot on my holiday table. The rich buttery shortbread is the perfect base for the shredded apples and light meringue topping. And the crumble adds just the right amount of texture to this dessert. So if you need something sweet to eat and you love apple pie, try this Polish version. Happy baking.
