1. Minoxidil 5% is very effective for male and female pattern hairloss but it’s not useful for all forms of hairloss, and will not always reverse hairloss once it’s started. Topical 5% formula has to be used consistently daily for women and twice a day for men for best effect and many will notice a reversion to baseline hair if they stop it. Want to boost the effect of topical minoxidil? Add microneedling once a week with 0.75mm needle stamping device for boost. 2. Most common side effects are irritation and hair growth on the face, neck and other areas. Topical minoxidil is also toxic to pets. Don’t use while 🤰 3. Oral minoxidil is as effective as topical 5% minoxidil. It may be preferred for those who want a pill instead of topical or have pets (that you know will lick your head 🐱). Downside of the pill is that there’s a higher risk for hair growth in areas you may not want it (🦵your knees?!), there’s increased risk of systemic side effects like headache and dizziness, and it’s prescription only. If you decide to go the prescription route, make sure it’s a doctor that prescribes it often since the doses are very low (much lower than what’s used in general medicine for hypertension). Follow if you’re planning on starting minoxidil for hairloss. #hairloss #minoxidil #dermatologist
