A Dutch review committee has concluded that a doctor acted with due care in the case of a child who was nearly 2 years old when their life was ended through euthanasia. The case is the first reported under the Netherlands' framework for children between the ages of 1 and 12. The child was born extremely prematurely and had severe brain damage, cerebral palsy, visual impairment and frequent seizures that did not respond adequately to medication. The committee said the child's suffering could not be sufficiently relieved and that the doctor had consulted other physicians before proceeding. The decision was made by the child's parents and doctor after they concluded there was no reasonable alternative to end the child's suffering. The review committee found that the doctor had met the applicable standards of care. #netherlands #news #euthanasia #Science #health
