Understanding what happened to you can be an important part of healing. But sometimes, knowing why you feel a certain way doesn’t automatically make the feeling disappear. You can know you’re safe and still feel anxious. Know someone cares about you and still expect them to leave. Know the past is over and still find yourself reacting to reminders as if the danger is happening again. After trauma, reminders can trigger emotional and physical stress responses even when the person is no longer in danger. These responses can include feeling tense or on edge, being easily startled, difficulty sleeping, and other signs of heightened arousal. That doesn’t mean your brain is broken. Sometimes, it means your mind and body learned to respond to certain situations as threatening, and those responses can take time to change. Healing isn’t about blaming yourself for having those reactions. It’s about gradually learning new ways to respond, often with support, safety, and evidence-based treatment when needed. You are allowed to understand your past without being defined by it. And you don’t have to rush the process. Save this if you needed the reminder today. 🤍 #traumahealing #MentalHealth #fyp #stressmanagement #wellnesstok
