Every relationship is going to have disagreements. You’re going to argue. You’re going to get frustrated. There will be moments when your partner gets on your last nerve and you’re too angry to have a productive conversation. But an argument should never become an excuse for disrespect. Being angry doesn’t mean you get to insult your partner, belittle them, call them out of their name, threaten to leave, bring up their insecurities, or say the most hurtful thing you can think of just because you know exactly where it’ll hurt. Some words don’t disappear when the fight is over. You can apologize. You can say you didn’t mean it. You can explain that you were angry. But your partner still heard it—and sometimes those words stay in a relationship much longer than the argument that caused them. That’s why sometimes the most mature thing you can say is: “I’m too upset to have this conversation right now. Give me a minute.” That’s not necessarily avoiding the problem. That’s recognizing that you’re triggered and choosing not to turn someone you love into someone you have to defeat. Take the minute. Go inside. Take a shower. Sit quietly. Regulate yourself. Figure out what you’re actually upset about. But come back to the conversation. Because there’s a difference between taking space so you don’t disrespect your partner and using silence to punish them. Healthy communication doesn’t mean couples never fight or argue. It means even in conflict, there are still boundaries. There is still respect. There are still certain lines you refuse to cross because that’s your person on the other side of the disagreement. You can be mad at me. You can be frustrated with me. You can disagree with me. Just don’t forget you love me while you’re doing it. Protect the relationship even when you’re angry. Because winning an argument isn’t worth damaging the person you’re supposed to be building with. 🤎 #RelationshipAdvice #HealthyRelationships #Communication #RelationshipTalk #couplegoals
