Christa Pike is scheduled to be executed in Tennessee today, more than 30 years after she was sentenced to death for the 1995 killing of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. She was 18 at the time. Her lawyers have argued that her age, severe childhood abuse and mental health struggles should have been taken into account when she was sentenced. Pike does not deny her involvement in Slemmer's death. Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee denied her clemency request, and the US Supreme Court rejected her final bid to halt the execution on Tuesday. Pike has also declined to choose a special final meal, according to the Tennessee Department of Correction. If the execution goes ahead, she will be the first woman put to death by Tennessee in more than 200 years. 📸 AP, Getty #christapike #news #usa #tennessee #crime
