I didn't know whether I could rescue her and sadly she was not the first dog abandoned in these woods. Hundreds of wooded acres surround my property, crossed by dirt roads with few homes... the kind of place where someone can leave a dog and be gone before anyone sees them. People nearby know I care for a large pack. They see the dogs I post and know I have fostered and rescued over the years. Somewhere along the way, that became proof to someone else that there would always be room for one more. Leave a dog close enough, and perhaps I will find them. Perhaps I will make room. Perhaps I will carry everything that follows. But finding them is only the beginning. When I found this girl, leaving her in the woods was never the question. I was going to get her out. The question was whether I could take her into my care and carry what came next. My space was full, my funds were limited, and I was addressing health problems. None of that changed what lay in front of me... it only meant I could not do it alone. We found her on a steep slope above the water, so we named her Jordan River. Even as I tried to work out what she needed, I kept thinking about the next dog... the one who may be left in these woods after I have reached the edge of what I can stretch. That is why I'm working on a building where the next dog can have somewhere safe to go. A lawyer is helping me make the rescue official, and a volunteer is ready. I want to turn it into a safe place waiting when the next dog is found, so the first question is not whether I can make room, but how quickly I can bring them in. A place where they can be fed, treated, given time to recover, and prepared for homes that understand them well enough to keep them. Compatible dogs can heal within a pack and learn basic obedience while they wait. The next dog will not wait for perfect timing. I just want there to be a door I can open when I find them... and enough heln hahind that dear to make cavina vec naccible. Help me go.
