This wearable bionic tail was developed in Japan specifically to help older people maintain balance. Using sensors, pneumatic systems, compressed air, and artificial muscles, the tail can move in eight directions and respond to changes in the user's posture. When the user leans forward, the tail moves upward to help adjust the center of gravity. When standing upright, it moves back down.
