Sometimes HS flares can be extremely sensitive to the touch. This flare had already started draining on its own after I had been using warm compresses. A lot had already drained, but I could tell there was still some drainage there, so I pressed on the area to check and it ended up going all over the wall. 😭 Just one of those moments while living with a skin condition like HS. A couple of tips from your HS bestie when caring for a draining flare: 💜 💜 Use a warm, not hot, compress to help with discomfort and encourage natural drainage. 💜 Whenever possible, allow your flare to drain on its own rather than trying to force it open. 💜 Once drainage begins, gently keep the area clean and pay attention to any changes in the surrounding skin. 💜 Use non-stick, absorbent dressings to help manage drainage and protect your skin. 💜 Change your dressings as needed, especially during heavier drainage days. Living with HS has taught me that every flare can be different. Sometimes the same flare may come back and feel familiar, while other times my skin responds completely differently. That’s why it’s so important to continue learning your skin, recognizing changes, and finding new ways to care for yourself along the way. Give yourself grace through every stage of this journey. Your experiences matter, your voice matters, and HS is nothing to be ashamed of. 💜 #HidradenitisSuppurativa #HSWarrior #FlareCare #HSAwareness #chronicillness
