Why it worked
The post leverages high-engagement 'ranking' content combined with personal, relatable storytelling about the awkwardness of being a student ambassador, which humanizes the university's marketing efforts.
Summary
A former student ranks various marketing materials and campaigns that featured her image during her time at Purdue University. She provides commentary on her personal feelings about the photos and the context in which they were used.
Structure
- 1Introduction to the ranking concept
- 2Reviewing physical marketing materials like elevator wraps and welcome packets
- 3Recounting a negative experience with a Snapchat ad
- 4Mentioning a digital app and social media features
- 5Concluding with a final ranking of photoshoots and university pride
Product placement
Purdue University (a) acts as the subject of the marketing materials shown; (b) appears as the institution name and logo. Removing it would change the entire topic of the video. Loper app (a) acts as a platform for prospective students to swipe on colleges; (b) appears as a named tool. Removing it would remove one specific item from the ranking list.

ranking ways my college used me for marketing
elevator ∞/10
by far my favorite because it felt unreal
welcome packets: 6/10
these were given to prospective students who came to visit. I hate this pic of me but liked the concept!
admitted student boxes: 7/10
given to students who got admitted to Daniels. only knocking off points because I didn't know about it until someone sent a pic
Snapchat ads: 2/10
don't have a pic but HATED THIS. I got asked to film a vid with a script. I was on my way to build a snowman with my neighbors and didn't know what it was for. I was literally in a hoodie looking chopped. The next day I'm laying in bed peacefully and I see myself as a Snapchat ad. People kept texting me asking why they keep seeing it bc it was a promo for 1-2 weeks.
Purdue Career Fairs
1,800 employers come to campus across every industry you could imagine
Loper app: 3/10
this is an app for prospective students to swipe left or right on colleges. I just hate this pic with a passion. My ambassador friends said I looked like a Lego character
YouTube shorts vid: 8/10
honestly thought this vid was cute and was fun to film. it was also on insta!
scholarship article: 9/10
Super fun! Only knocking off a point bc I didn't write it but it's written from the perspective that I did
Instagram posts: 10/10
always was a fun surprise to see on my feed!
I put this pic separate just to say I hate it
honorary mention on this photoshoot: 1/10
we had to keep redoing these pics bc we didn't look natural enough when we were walking and smiling
BOILER UP!!!!!!!!
