Why it worked

The video succeeds by combining the high-stakes, intense atmosphere of Hot Ones with a relatable, humorous celebrity anecdote, creating a viral moment that feels authentic rather than scripted.

Summary

Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson play a trivia game on the show Hot Ones, where Hathaway successfully identifies NBA player OG Anunoby. Hathaway then shares a personal anecdote about a time she sat courtside at a Knicks game and accidentally caused OG Anunoby to knock over her son's popcorn.

Structure

1Hathaway and Johnson struggle to identify OG Anunoby in a trivia game.
2Hathaway correctly identifies him and expresses excitement.
3Hathaway recounts a story about sitting courtside at a Knicks game.
4Hathaway describes a near-collision with OG Anunoby that resulted in spilled popcorn.
5Hathaway reveals that the incident made her trend on social media.

Product placement

Hot Ones (a) ACTS: the show's interface, branding, and format are operated to conduct the interview. Removing it would change the video entirely. OG Anunoby (a) ACTS: he is the subject of the trivia game and the anecdote shared by Anne Hathaway. Removing him would change the content of the story.

Okay okay free associate. If you're saying that something goes way back and they're like original gangster so OG Anunoby? Yeah. OG. OG. Was that the last one? What did you do with OG Anunoby? Oh my gosh I'm so happy. Well done. I'm so so so so so happy. That's amazing. Yeah. I couldn't let you guys go down like that. So OG Anunoby. That's a real person? Yes! Oh my g-- Game 4 of the NBA championship, one of the greatest baskets ever scored by a player is OG Anunoby and like you just have to watch it. It's it's poetry in motion. I mean you just can't, it's divine. Like truly truly a divine shot. Every year for my birthday I always ask for the same thing which is courtside tickets to go see the Knicks. It's like one of those things where when I was a kid I would go to games, I'd be in the nosebleed and I would always like wonder who got was lucky enough to sit courtside. And so this is the present I want every year. And so one year we we went. The other part of the dream is like that somehow the ball will get-- and you get to catch it, give it back to a player. And the ball was coming straight for me and I was like oh my god oh my god oh my god I'm gonna catch it. And I went and I looked this way but somebody else was also trying to catch it which was OG Anunoby. And he came like this close but he's such an amazing athlete he stopped but he banged into Jack, my my youngest, his popcorn which went flying. It was just like the greatest thing so it was like this bucket list moment that just got even better. Oh my god. And ten minutes later the people sitting behind us, the guy like tapped on my shoulder and goes, by the way, you're trending.
