If you’re quietly wondering what you’ve done to your life, we were right there. Juno bit everything. Zoomed through the apartment like it owed him money. Peed on the floor the second we looked away. Slept beautifully in our arms and screamed the moment we put him down. And somewhere in there, usually around 11pm, one of us would say it out loud. Is this normal? Are we doing this wrong? Here’s what we wish someone had told us then 👇 It’s not forever. But it’s also not automatic. Puppies don’t grow out of this on their own. They grow out of it because of what you do in these weeks, even when it feels like nothing is working. You’re not failing. You’re just in the part nobody films. The three things that actually changed it for us👇 😴 Sleep. Most of the biting and the chaos wasn’t energy, it was exhaustion. A puppy can only handle about an hour awake before they’re overtired, and an overtired puppy doesn’t slow down, they get worse. Enforced naps fixed more than any training ever did. 🔁 Routine Same order, every single time. Potty, food, play, potty, chew, crate. He stopped fighting it once he could see it coming. ⏳ Patience with the parts that are just biology. The 3am potty trips weren’t a training failure. At 8 weeks his bladder was tiny. That one sorted itself out around 11 weeks with no intervention from us at all. And the honest part👇 Some weeks you will do everything right and it will still feel hard. Progress isn’t a straight line. You’ll have a brilliant day followed by a day where it feels like you’ve gone backwards. That’s not you losing. That’s just what the first couple of months look like. Every puppy is different too. Some take much longer than Juno did, and that says nothing about you. But if you know what you’re building towards and you stay consistent, it does change. Not slowly and then suddenly. Just quietly, one week at a time, until one day you realise you can’t remember the last accident 🫶 You’re doing better than you think. 📌 Follow @junothedeal for the honest side of raising a puppy. We share what actually worked for us, and what didn't. 🛒 And the stuff we genuinely use every day, all linked in bio.
