Funny how the things our grandparents did start making more sense as we get older 🌱 My granddad never had a compost pile. Neither did my dad. Instead, suitable plant-based kitchen scraps went right back to the garden. I used to think it was just about wasting less. Now I see it differently. The garden feeds us all season — and after the harvest, I like giving something back to the soil. Buried organic material breaks down over time and adds organic matter and nutrients to the soil. I stick to suitable plant scraps and keep meat, dairy, grease and diseased material out.
