Hook
Some of you are so obsessed with people staying out of the left lane that you forget that the whole point of driving is to get to where you're going safely. First of all, people tailgate in the right lane too. So let's stop acting like the left lane is the only place where people are driving aggressively. And also, I understand that the left lane is for passing on the highway. I'm not saying that people should just be sitting in the left lane for no reason. But if my exit is coming up and I need to get into the left lane to get to where I need to go, I'm going to get over when it's safe. I'm not going to wait until the last second and make some crazy maneuver just because somebody thinks I shouldn't be there. And that's what bothers me the most about this debate. People get so caught up in being right that they forget how dangerous driving can actually be. Tailgating someone because they're not going fast enough for you is dangerous. Riding someone's bumper to force them to move, dangerous. Acting like everybody on the road needs to drive exactly how you want them to drive is a problem. You can want people to use the left lane appropriately without acting like you own the road. At the end of the day, I would rather somebody take their time, pay attention, and change lanes when it's safe than make a dangerous decision because they're worried about the person behind them being mad. We're all trying to get somewhere, but being right isn't worth causing an accident.
