Ovi is not going to break Gretzky's record. Alex Ovechkin is not going to be the first person to break Wayne Gretzky's goal record. He's going to be the first person that gets 1,000 goals. At the time of this recording, he just scored his 884th. He only has 11 more to break the record and there's still a bunch of games left in this season. He's scoring at a rate that is basically equivalent to his prime, so he even has a little bit of room to drop off and still beat the record this season. But here's the thing, I genuinely think Ovi, he might play two more seasons in the NHL and if he does that, I think he's actually going for the thousand goals, not for Wayne's record. I think he wants a record that is going to be untouchable, that nobody else will hit, nobody else will break. And 1,000 goals in one career, that's never been done. In fact, Wayne's 894 is as close as we've ever seen. He's a freak, he's still doing it and he's still doing it at the highest level, better than anyone else in the league. His rate of scoring is just atrocious, it's ridiculous when he scores goal. No, 1,000 just remember that some random guy on TikTok called it first.
