If everybody in your family has a problem with you, you're not the problem. You're the scapegoat. If you recognize the dysfunction and toxic patterns in your family, the abuse, the lying, the manipulation, and you tried to speak out about it, then got completely eaten alive for doing so, yeah, you're the scapegoat and you're in good company. Toxic families don't run on love, they run on roles. Most people in your family, your siblings, aunts, uncles, they stick with the toxic, abusive parent because they don't want to become the next target. Nobody else wants to get bullied or exiled. So if you tried to call out the toxic behavior because you wanted things to get better, if you tried to fix it, protect yourself or protect someone else, and you got blamed and gaslit all the way to Nantucket, that doesn't mean there's something wrong with you. It means you disrupted the script. And good for you. You're probably a good person. The scapegoat isn't the broken one. The scapegoat is the one who refused to pretend everything was fine. Comment scapegoat if this hit home.
