Common behaviors of people with childhood trauma. When someone experiences difficult things as a child, it can affect how they act as they grow up. Here are five common behaviors. One, they don't ask for help. These people have a hard time asking others for support. It's not that they don't need help, it's because when they were young, they learned that depending on others wasn't safe. So now they try to do everything alone. Two, they always try to make others happy. They put what other people want before what they need. Making others happy feels safe to them. Saying no makes them very worried and uncomfortable. Three, they seem emotionally distant. Sometimes they appear like they don't care about things or show no feelings. But this is actually a way they learned to protect themselves. When they were young, showing less emotion felt safer. Four, they find it hard to trust people. They often expect that others will leave them or let them down. Because of this, they build walls around their hearts. Even though they really want close friendships, they're afraid to let people in. Five, they're very hard on themselves. They criticize themselves constantly. A mean voice inside their head, which started in childhood, is much louder than any kind or caring thoughts. They struggle to be gentle with themselves. Understanding these behaviors helps us be more patient and kind.
