AP Macroeconomics can feel confusing at first — especially because each unit builds on the previous ones. Some topics are very intuitive, while others require much deeper understanding of economic models, graphs, and policy. So I ranked every AP Macroeconomics unit from easiest to hardest based on concepts, formulas, graphs, and what most students struggle with on the AP exam. In this reel I break down which units are the most straightforward and which ones usually cause the most difficulty for Unit 1: Basic Economic Concepts - 3/10 • Mostly simple definitions • Mostly conceptual; very little math Unit 2: Economic Indicators and Business Cycle - 4/10 • Formula heavy • Still mostly conceptual Unit 3: National Income and Price Determination - 6.5/10 • Start to learn more typical macro concepts • Lots of graph-based reasoning Unit 4: Financial Sector - 8.5/10 • Combination on many different systems • Multi-step reasoning in situations • Much more terminology Unit 5: Long-Run Consequences of Stabilization Policies - 7/10 • An extension to unit 3 • Multi-step analysis and hard FRQ's Unit 6: Open Economy - International Trade and Finance 7.5/10 • Slightly abstract • Confusing short-run and long-run effects Want to Self-Study any AP Class or get a 5?
