a degree will change your life more than a man will a man will pluck you from obscurity and change your life but a degree absolutely will I get so many young girls who DM me who ask me like how did I get to the point where I am in life and the honest answer is I was 9 years old when Beyonce dropped 'Upgrade U' and I was listening to the song and I was like what the hell is she talking about so I went to the computer lab in school and printed out the lyrics and then Googled every single thing I found out what an Omarion P. Diddy was when I was 9 years old Ralph Lauren, purple label, all of that and I wanted all of it So I made a plan to get it And that plan included going to school it included a college degree, a bachelor's degree from a selective institution Because while I was sitting on PCH Avenue, I was deeply aware of what an education could do for me While people left to say that all degrees are created equally, blah blah blah blah blah Yeah, sure, a BA, that's absolutely true The reality is, for selective institutions with large name brands, they have deep alumni networks Every single company under the sun is going to come on campus to recruit you They make it easy for you The hardest part about those schools is simply just getting in I chose my undergraduate school based off of three things One, the ranking Two, how much money they were giving me And three, the post-grad opportunities The fact of the matter is, when a school is strong enough to have a good on-campus recruiting setup You have a higher likelihood of simply making more money because those high-earning industries will meet you where you're at Of the people that I graduated college with in 2020, I would say 50 to 60% of people went into consulting, investment banking or tech And the Vanderbilt Career Center made life so easy, like if you wanted to meet anybody, they would set it up So then you have a bunch of 21-year-olds who really have no concept of anything in life making $100,000 And obviously, if you start your career and make that amount of money, it is considerably easier to continue making that amount of money Then those same people go on to highly selective professional schools, they go to T14 law schools, they go to M7 business schools They parlay that degree into millions of dollars over the course of their lifetime And you know, the easy thing, the thing that might be, yeah, this man is going to figure it out for me, he's going to do this, he's going to do that, he's going to buy me a Birkin Oh my god, yes There are tricks out there I've met them, I've seen them, I love them God bless them truly But the absolute best thing you can do for yourself instead of depending on someone else is simply just sit up in them people's schoolhouse and get your credentials in order
