These are the most in-demand software engineering roles for 2026. Starting off with number one, we have AI and ML engineering. From 2023 to 2025 ML job postings have exploded from 10% to 50%. ML engineers are needed much more than ever. They're responsible for designing, building and training ML models into production systems. These are the people who are behind your favorite LLMs such as Opus 4.6, GPT 5.2 and Gemini 3. Next up we have DevOps engineer. DevOps and cloud engineers. DevOps is expected to grow 25% over the next decade due to widespread adoption of CI/CD practices. They work on cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP and Azure. With AI generating more code than ever, DevOps engineers are expected to monitor it and make sure it deploys to production safely. Next up we have cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is exploding with over 33% growth in their job posting. Companies are experiencing a lot of data breach risk and are willing to pay the big bucks in order to hire a team that could stop this, especially in the world of AI out there, cybersecurity is even more important now. Last but not least, we have the good old full stack and backend engineers. These are classic roles that always been in demand.
