Reese Witherspoon made some people really upset with her comments about AI in the last week, and I feel like I've possibly never seen a better example of how divided we currently are on this topic. If you're steeped in the tech world like I am, what she said was probably not that shocking. She basically was like, women are more likely to be replaced by AI than men in terms of the jobs that we currently hold. And women are also about 25% less likely to be using AI right now. So she's basically pointing out like, a gender disparity there. Did seem a little bit ad-like though, because she did say something like, I'm interested in learning more about this. Who wants to learn along with me? But then she clarified that it wasn't an ad, paying her to say it. She just like, is curious about AI. If you work in tech or consume a lot of tech media, that's like the least of it that you'll probably ever see. It seems so straightforward and benign, but she got major backlash from people including Roxane Gay, who were basically saying, Reese, this is not it. Something that the tech world has been talking about is that AI is a very unpopular, um, newcomer. A publication I love and work for, Newcomer, recently did a piece about how low AI is actually polling, um, among different generations in the US, basically, it's not popular among pretty much anyone. I probably fall more in the middle here, as I do with most things, where I'm definitely not cheering on AI whatsoever. I definitely feel like possibly we've evolved too far and I kind of just wanna run away and live on a farm. But I also feel that she's not wrong, Reese and what she's saying, that we don't wanna be left if this is something that's here to stay and possibly changing the workforce forever. Um, I don't know that we can just avoid it by refusing to learn how to use any of these tools. She did some Instagram stories this week to kind of clarify what she meant, like acknowledge that it had caused a lot of controversy. Um, so, yeah. I don't know. Curious about is the backlash against her warranted?
