okay I don't know if I should be giving this advice or tip away for free but I love TikTok and everyone on TikTok so I'm gonna go for it and can always delete it later if you're trying to make your social media post more compelling whether it's a written piece like a LinkedIn or even a script for a video like you make on TikTok I have a way to think about it that is gonna drastically help you I promise why am I qualified to talk about this I am really uncomfortable bragging about myself on social media but for the last 15 years I've been working in news at some of the biggest names in news that you would know CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, more now I'm the head of social media at one of the best known venture capital firms in the world and we produce a lot of content so I've basically for the last 15 years over and over have been practicing writing compelling social media content and if you've read news online in the past 15 years I'm just one of the people that have been trying to figure out how to make you click how to make you engage how to make you watch videos um not in a creepy way just like how do we make our content as interesting as possible to draw people in in this time I developed this analogy that writing good social media copy again whether that's written or for video it's like making a smoothie you want to pack as many high value ingredients into the smoothie as possible with very little to no filler um especially you know we talk about hooks on social so that's the very beginning of a video or even the very beginning of a written post you wanna look at the first words that you use and make sure that they're all the high value ingredients in the smoothie so the other day I posted a video and the topic was that I saw something on LinkedIn that was interesting to me it was about something that's gonna be popular I think on TikTok and instead of starting out my sentence with I was scrolling the other day on LinkedIn and I saw this I decided to pack value into the first few words I started out the video by saying there is a huge money making opportunity that I see on TikTok the reason I started it is because you can see all the high value words that are in there the word TikTok the word money the word opportunity so you're gonna think through what would be distinct not often used words that would make you stop in your scroll and some of my best examples of that are proper nouns so anytime you can name someone's name a company name anything that's gonna start with a capital letter honestly is a good one numbers are another one it's not a word but if you can get numbers in there especially dollar amounts that's a huge high value word that you can get in there um again you wanna go for words that are not common and take out any filler like the other day I was or in a recent podcast I talked about or you know yesterday I was thinking about I almost feel like I should make a template or or like a list of high value words that might be helpful um let me know in the comments if that would be helpful to you I'm starting to think like doing it in videos might not even be enough but please follow me if you like these kinds of tips because I'm thinking about doing a series of social media basics and if you're trying to work professionally in social media I'm happy to share what I've learned in my many years of doing it um so follow along with me I'd love to follow you and I'm also documenting my journey of starting my own social media agency but start thinking about it every time you write something for social and let me know if it works for you
