I'm currently oncall this week and this is like my fifth time being oncall ever since I joined Amazon as a new graduate software engineer a couple months ago. I'm also working from home and I just moved into a new apartment and don't even have Wi-Fi set up yet. Yeah, been on call with no Wi-Fi. That's a deadly combo, especially if I get paged in the middle of the night and can't even connect to the internet. That'll be crazy. This is fine though, as I already accounted for this and I'll be having my Wi-Fi set up soon. But in the meantime, I went to my apartment's work booths where it's pretty much just a small room with a desk and a Wi-Fi access. So this came as a lifesaver for me as it allowed me to keep working and resolving tickets. About three hours into me working, my apartment just lost power out of nowhere. But this is because it's been raining so much that one of the power poles was leaning and it cut power to the building. So now I had no Wi-Fi and no power. But thankfully I only live about 10 minutes from the office. So I just changed real quick and I went to the office and I finished my day over there.
