Just signed up to Claude? Do these 10 things first.

If you've just signed up to Claude and you don't know what to do, here are some 10 tips to get started right away. Number one, you want to get the Pro plan. If you're on the free plan, that's okay for a quick play, but the Pro plan with $20 USD a month is where a lot of the key features are unlocked. No. 2, please download the desktop app. That is ultimately where you need to be using Claude inside the desktop app. No. 3, go down to settings and click on personal preferences and just tell Claude your name, what you do, how you like responses. So for example, I'll I'll say mine, it has, you know, use Australian English, use warm, concise language, avoid M dashes. Of course, we all hate them. Some of us do. No. 4, turn on memory. So in the settings, this way Claude will remember things about you across different conversations. No. 5, and there's a lot to this, but you wanna start using projects. Projects is really such an opportunity to get more out of Claude. It think of it like a folder area for a particular part of your business or your life. So you might have a project that's for content creation, you might have one for your admin, might have one for your systems for emails. No. 6, and I really wish I'd done this earlier is you wanna create a master context document for you and your business. So say on a Google Doc, you just type out who you are, who your ideal clients are, who you serve, where you're located, um who your team is, what to avoid, uh language wise, how you do like to speak, what your vision is. And you save that as a PDF and upload it to every project. That way you don't have to keep telling Claude over and over again who you are and what you're trying to do. Master context document, get on to it. No. 7, within a particular project, say for example, marketing or content creation, so you've put in your context document about who you are, then you can add knowledge specific to that project. So for example, if it's content creation, you can upload examples of blogs you've already created or posts that have done really well. So that way it has even more context about uh what you do to help it with future outputs. No. 8, so imagine within each project we've added your master context document, we've given it knowledge specific to that project, the last thing is to also add custom instructions that you give it. So you tell it in this project, I want you to act as a top 1% marketer in the world for example. You give it instructions as to who it is, what to avoid, how you want it to be. No. 9, you wanna start building your prompt library. There's gonna be prompts that you're using over and over again. Rather than trying to figure it out every time, open up a Google Doc or your phone notes app and save prompts that you you you know you're going to use over and over again. I actually use Claude to help me write those prompts. So I will say, help me write an effective prompt to create content on a regular basis for this platform and give it the tone that you want and ask it to ask me questions so that this prompt is really effective. It will then generate a prompt having asked me questions and then I will save that prompt that it has created into my prompt library. So then I can just go back to that library, copy that and pop it into a chat when I need. And no. 10 is a reminder that we do not need to have this all figured out at all. I do I have so much to learn, I am scratching the surface and I am too am overwhelmed by the pace that this race is going in. It is totally normal to feel that way. I think for me it's just about continuing to have a play, continuing to solve problems using these systems, these tools like Claude.
